Clinton First Church of the Nazarene

We are Christian.  We are disciples of Jesus Christ, believing that the Holy Spirit works in the Church, the community of Christ’s followers, in order to renew our broken world.  We look forward to the day when God’s kingdom will be fully established and all of creation will be made new.

We are Nazarene.  We are one denomination within Christ’s Church known as the Church of the Nazarene.  We consider all Christians of other denominations our brothers and sisters in Christ but we identify ourselves especially with the Wesleyan-Holiness movement.  This movement started with a man named John Wesley who was ordained in the Anglican Church.  He began to preach a message of holiness throughout England in the 1700’s which resulted in a movement that became the Methodist Church after his death.  The Methodist Church in America then gave rise to several holiness churches, one of which was the Church of the Nazarene.  The Church of the Nazarene eventually became a nation wide denomination in 1908.  Today the Church of the Nazarene is a global denomination ministering in a number of ways around the world.

“We are called to be a community that is a faithful image of God’s love.”  This is the mission of our local congregation.  We believe that our life together as a community says a lot about what we believe about God.  We want all of our actions as a church, whether it be our worship, our fellowship together, or our service to others, to be a true reflection of the God who loves us and is working to transform this world.
